How to start birth control? The Targaryen South Carolina 210 posts

So I've been posting a lot lately D: Sorry!!! But I'm curious how to begin the process of starting birth control? My mom won't let me go to the doctor for it. (I think the insurance doesn't cover it I'm not complaining about her!!) But I don't know where else to go? She suggested a free clinic but I have NO idea where that is or what I would need to bring if I went. Suggestions?

Go to planned parenthood. What kind of insurance do you have. Most cover some form of birth control.

I should know but honestly don't. I'm on my moms insurance. I'll have to ask her.

Do you not have your own insurance card? If not you should get one. I mean you're 20 it's time to be in charge of your health.

No I don't. It's sad but I don't have my GED yet (I dropped out of HS for family issues) long story. And no job anything like that so I don't have my own insurance. I'm working on it though. And I know a baby would be a BIG no no because of it.

This. Plenty of people are on their parents insurance nothing wrong with that but as a covered member you should have your own medical card. Call your doctor and go on your own and ask for birth control. Figure out what insurance you have call them with your group plan number and ask if they cover birth control.

Oh I was never told we had our own card. I always thought my mom had the card and she was the only one because it was her insurance. I'll call my doctor tomorrow morning and ask him. Hopefully he can help me and hopefully its covered. Thank you for informing me!!

Of course. Ask your mom for a card. If she says no your doctors office will have a copy of it in your file ask them for the info and call and request your own.
