Nursing with a stomach bug??? MomNextDoor 2 kids; Grapevine, Texas 8351 posts

My daughter has been napping since I started throwing up, but she's going to wake up soon and she's going to be hungry. How the heck am I supposed to nurse her if I'm throwing up like mad every 20-30 minutes? Should I just pump and have my husband bottle-feed her? Will she still get the antibodies that way? TIA.

The anti bodies are in your milk so if shes getting your milk shes getting them.

K. I thought so, but I didn't know if the saliva transfer thing had to happen.

If she's old enough to get a bottle, that'd be a good way to get some milk to her. If she's getting your milk, she's getting the antibodies.

Just make sure you stay hydrated as much as possible to try to keep your supply up. If you can't keep down a full glass of water, munch on some ice chips.

Get some rest!

The antibodies are in your milk, not ON your n****e. So if she gets your milk, she gets the antibodies.

If you feel too nauseous to hold her through a nursing session, pump. You can even pump in the bathroom, lol. Hope you feel better soon.

I feel for you.. I just had a horrible stomach bug a few days ago and omg.. Couldn't imagine trying to breastfeed while puking every five minutes. Mine was only a 24 hour thing but I still felt crappy for the next two days while trying to make up the sleep I lost. I lost 7 lbs though :p lol
