My best friend is moving to France for a year at the end of July.

She asked me to wait until she returns to get married with my boyfriend, because she really wants to be present at the wedding. I am not having a wedding party, or a church wedding, just a small City Hall thing. My boyfriend doesn

I wouldn't wait. Your fiancee's feeling should come before your best friend's. If it's a priority, she will find a way to make it there.

Your wedding, not hers. As much as I wanted my best friend to be at my wedding too, I did it without her there.

I would try and plan a visit back for her, if possible.

The two of you need to talk about it and make a decision. And your friend should be accepting of your choice.
It is a tough situation but your soon to be husband's opinion should hold more weight. It is his wedding too.

I agree with all of you. The thing is... she introduced us.

Part of me wants to do it when *I* want to, and part of me is like "hey, it's only a year, wait for her".

P.S.: Can't do it before she leaves, it would be too soon for us, she leaves in less than 2 months.

If you're just doing a courthouse wedding, that's plenty of time to plan. we were married by a judge and had a nice fancy dinner with close family and friends, planned in about 3 weeks.

Maybe it's not about the planning? Maybe it's just that they're not ready for that commitment yet?

Right, this is it. We want to get married soon, but not that soon.

We're not just toying around with the idea, but we've been living together for a very short time, we want to live together for a while before getting married.

Our idea was to tie the knot next year anyway, just not a year and a half from now.

that's reasonable.

I'd still do it when you want to. It's a shame your friend can't be there.

I would get married waiting for a friend to come back seems silly to me. That's nice she introduced you but...it's your wedding it has nothing to do with her.

I talked to my SO and told him I wanted to marry him no matter who was at the wedding. All I wanted was for him to be in it <3

He said we can plan a honeymoon in Paris so we could visit our friend.

WIN-WIN right? :P
