So I posted last week about a guy I met through a mutual friend. The first night we met we discussed that I was recently divorced and have 2 kids and that he was "unattached". Well all this past week we were talking and texting and went out together alone this past friday night. We really hit it off, and I really like him. We will be seeing each other again today actually. When we went out we discussed in more detail about his previous relationship and when it had ended as well as mine...which kinda put a flag in my head. His most recent relationship ended 2 months ago and it was for a year and a half. I'm looking to eventually get into something more serious and while I'm not saying it's with him tomorrow, I want to ask and kind of feel him out of the subject. Is he just dating and having fun or is he dating to eventually have something serious. How do I go about this, and when is the right time to do this? This will be our second official date together but the third time we've seen each other total.

So Confused!

just ask him.
or if you want to be more subtle
be like "why have you decided to date again?" and that usually gets the answer out.

If you feel comfortable doing it tonight, I don't think it's too early... I would say third date would be ideal in most situations though. Maybe take tonight to kind of feel it out a little more

I'm going through the same thing right now. I think it's too soon to bring the subject up. Just keep it cool and see how it goes. Maybe after about a month I'd bring it up...

It's technically our second date. The first time we met was just in passing at a night out. And it's only been a week total since we met. That's why I'm questioning doing it, I'm afraid he will feel it's SUPER fast.

Yeah, but if you feel comfortable with him I would just try and find a way to casually talk about what you guys are looking for or want. But I'm of the mind that I would rather make someone else uncomfortable and find out we're not meant to be early on then to wait and then be heart broken. Also I believe that if you guys are meant to be together, it'll happen even if you broaching the subject of intentions early makes him uncomfortable, you'll still end up together.

That's a good way to look at it.

this is why I liked dating sites. Im wary of men I just "meet", so online I looked for men that specifically were searching "long term relationships" at least then that weeded out a lot of people just looking for hookups. How I found my SO of a year now.

Its not super fast OP, you dont want to waste your time dating someone that has no interest in long term if you do.
