Hand Foot Mouth Virus Sunkissed. 2 kids; 1 angel baby; GC, IL, United States 4578 posts

My son is 4 months old and this morning when I was giving him a bath I noticed these little bumps on his left arm and right arm and leg... they kinda looked like tiny blisters with red around them. So, I got him and my daughter ready, took them to their daddy's work to have him look and see if he knew what it was (at first I honestly thought they were little bug bites or something; I had NO idea). He had no idea either, so obviously we took him to the Dr and we found out it's the Hand, Foot, Mouth virus. She said he was the 6th case she already seen today, so it's going around. Right now his is minor; it's not in his mouth yet. I'm hoping it doesn't spread there. :( She said there was no antibiotics she could give him and we just have to wait it out and to give him infant Tylenol if needed for pain.

I feel so bad right now. I was in tears earlier because I just don't know what to do and I don't want my daughter to catch it too (she's 2.5y.o.).

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for him/us throughout the week? They said it would take about 7 days to go away. :(

Its really common, especially in daycares. Wash all the toys they play with or wipe them down with a lysol wipe. Lots of fluids of course. He should get a fever later today or tomorrow most likely. And if your son has it you can bet your daughter has it too, she probably just isn't showing symptoms yet. Just comfort them as much as you can. Once the fever breaks they will feel better but they will still be contagious to others. Hope they start feeling better soon mama!

My boys are 4 months and 20months and they both have it right now. Its miserable for about 3 days and gone in around 7. Just Tylenol and cuddle. Lots of cuddles.

It's highly contagious so your DD probably will get it too.

If your DS does get the blisters in his mouth, mix equal parts of Maalox and Benadryl and rub it on the blisters using a Q tip. It acts like a numbing agent.

Thank you, I will definitely wipe everything with Lysol wipes. & I kinda assumed my daughter would get it too if she didn't already have it since it's so common... I feel so bad.

Thanks for the tip. I really appreciate it.

I am waiting for a fever to hit... he isn't acting like he's bothered yet. He's sleeping right now.

What is Maalox though? & how come the dr office didn't say anything like that. They basically said there was nothing I could do except give him Tylenol.

Ooh Ok, I understand. I will definitely keep that in mind if he gets them in his mouth... I am hearing that's the worst part, right? I really hope it doesn't spread there. The way it seems though is as if it will for sure since it's so contagious.
