how old was your preemie when they sat unassisted? mommommommyma 2 kids; 2 angel babies; Armenia 1116 posts

Title pretty much sums it up. My lo was born 7 weeks early, and he's 6 months old now. Well he can sit just fine as long as he's propped up.. bumbo, on the couch, etc. But when you sit him on his own he literally makes it only a second and he falls over. His pediatrician is talking about maybe trying some physical therapy, but I don't think its neccasary... Opinions?

Oops didn't notice "preemie" part.

I think that would be a bit premature. My oldest was born at 42 weeks and didn't sit unassisted until almost 9 months.
He crawled at 10 months and walked at 10 1/2.

Mine weren't preemies but my DD didn't sit up unassisted until 7 months my DS is 7 months now and he barely makes it a second before falling over...unless its obvious she has weak muscles I don't think therapy is needed that young

Is that 6 months adjusted age? If it's not, then he's actually only about 4.5 months old adjusted, which is very very early to be sitting by himself unsupported. It was well over 6 months by the time my babies were sitting.

I don't think his muscles are weak ( but I could be wrong ). Like I said he can sit fine in his bumbo, high chair, couch all that he just can't do it on his own. I swear its almost like his buddha belly weighs him down lol.

I believe she was sitting fully unassisted by 7 months - crawled at 10 months, walked at 14 months. She's now 6 and full of energy and life.
