What would you do? gorgeouschaos712 2 kids; Hickory, North Carolina 596 posts

I have been having an earache for the last few days. Unlike what I was hoping, it has done nothing but gotten worse to the point I am literally in tears. My kids (3.5 years and 1 year) have a cold themselves so have been extremely clingy and fussy/whiny. Every time the scream or whine, I cringe from the feeling in my ear.

Would you make the trip to the er tonight, or wait it out until tomorrow hoping you can get into the doctors office? Previous appointments tomorrow prevent me from getting in first thing in the morning, and I am not sure when or if I would be able to get in tomorrow.

If you're in that much pain, I'd just go into the ER. I can't imagine suffering like that overnight. Hope you feel better.

Ear infections are awful but I don't think it's an emergency. You can safely take 4 ibuprofen at once (800 mg), that should hold you over until the morning.

Idk your time zone but it's only 7 here and urgent cares are open until 10-12, you should look into that.

Do you have an urgent care? What about someone to watch the kids tonight. I would probably go to urgent care or the Ed. If you can't get in tomorrow you will end up waiting until Monday!!

This!
I get ear infections all the time and they hurt like hell but I've never gone to the ER for one.
Take (4) 800mg Motrin and (2) Extra strength Tylenol for the pain tonight. Go get looked at tomorrow.

I'm not up for a wasted trip to the er as the next person. I in fact actually hate going for myself. However I have to disagree on the four ibuprofen holding me over until morning, as I take twice that for headaches with no avail. So for the most part I suffer through them. And as I said before I have two previous appointments (one for myself, and one for DD) that would prevent me from even making an appointment until the afternoon.

You take 1600mg of ibuprofen? Lawd you are asking for some stomach bleeding!

Don't be a hero, man. If you're in pain and don't think you can get in tomorrow, just go to the ER. You need sleep to care for your kids and get your stuff done in the a.m. Hard to sleep through that kind of pain.

I agree with this.

I'm the same way...I have actually gotten to the ER for a migraine. Being in pain might not kill me but why suffer when they can help.

Let me just add....I don't get normal migraines. They are terrible to the point I can't even stand up because I'm dizzy, nauseated, numb, ect. So, when I have gone to the ER I'm put to sleep for hours.

Lmao!! No 800 just never seems to work.. the 1600 barely makes a difference. :/
