Night time fever.. ModernMan'sHustle ♥ 1 child; Akron, Ohio 983 posts

For the last 3 days/nights LO has been dealing with a high fever (103.5 being the highest at night) Today it's been less bad, staying under 101 all day but now she has a slight rash on her face and chest from the fever.

Right now her temp is at 100.2 so it's not too high but would it be a good idea to give her medicine before bed to keep it from sky rocketing over night? I don't wanna give it unless it's needed but I also don't want her waking up with the fever at 103 again and making the rash worse.

Our local night time nurse line had a 2 hour "wait" to speak with a nurse so I don't have time for that...help?

My pedi always says to treat the symptoms, not the fever. Fever is a body's normal reaction to fight infection and no fever you're listing is really that high. If she's not in pain, I'd hold off on the medicine. Does she have any other symptoms? My son would always spike fevers and then a rash would appear with no other symptoms and he had Roseola, which usually goes away within a week.

If it does hit 103 again tonight, you probably want to get her seen. 3 days is a long time to get a fever that stays that high. Normally the rash isn't caused by the fever, it's caused by whatever bacteria or virus your LO has. I'm not sure about the tylenol to be honest. With that temp, i wouldn't normally give tylenol, but if LO was still obviously sick, i would give it to her.

The whole house has been dealing with stuffy noses, diarrhea (sp?) and a cough. She's the only one who has had a fever though.. We took her to the pedi on Wednesday for the fever and she told us anything over 101 needs ibuprofen and to pay attention to it at night. That's why I wasn't sure whether to give it before bed or leave it alone. She gets miserable at night when the fever gets high. I figured hers was Roseola as well since it is starting after a high fever. It's not a bad rash by any means just a few dots on her cheeks, neck and chest. They kind of look like little red pimples.

She's never had it before though so I don't know what exactly the rash looks like.

When we went to the docs yesterday she told me that with a "virus" (it's always a virus when they're not sure IMO) it's normal for a fever to stick around for 3-5 days and that if she wasn't getting better by Saturday to give her a call and she'd call in antibiotics. It seems to be curbing a little bit during the day and I guess we'll have to wait and see about tonight. :( I hate when babies are sick.

Same here, the rash hasn't seemed to be a problem at all. She's been acting completely fine when the fever isn't high as well.

Agreed. :( It's so hard watching them not feel good. Hopefully she's feeling better! My son went through something similar about 2 weeks ago except his 103 fever wasn't going down no matter what I gave him. He ended up having an ear infection and pneumonia. We got that diagnosis after they sent him home with a dx of the flu too. lol They even said his ears were clear the first time. He was very obviously sick though until he got antibiotics. He was basically a lump of baby until we got him re-hydrated and the fever under control.
