This is just a stupid vent. After having two premie's, having a NORMAL pregnancy is almost difficult. My body is doing nothing...I've been losing tiny bits of plug and that's it. I had regular contractions ALL day yesterday after I went on a long walk. They haven't even really stopped, but they aren't changing. I'm very happy my baby is baking longer ESPECIALLY since boys develop slower, but I am very anxious to go back to work and to bring my son home. 29 days left...

/end vent

You still have a month. Instead of walking you should try and relax so the contractions don't get worse.

The last month is definitely the hardest, and I can't imagine how much more anxious it gets after two premies! I was one of those crazy new moms that was scared to death of going into labor, and after 9 months of crazy, insane, constant changes, things seemed to stagnate on that last stretch. Lol.

Congratulations for keeping your new baby baking for so long! Now you get to relax and wait at least. :D

I have never heard boys develop slower. :? They're not a different animal or anything.

They do, esp their heart and lungs. It's a major problem with premies in particular. Just a one week difference is enough to mean the difference between going home on time and staying in the NICU for some boys.

Go research it.

It actually is even more specific than that. Black girl babies tend to do much better in the NICU than the white boy babies. It's weird, but it's true. Here's a link discussing it, but it's not a medical journal. http://www.families.com/blog/weak-white-males-and-the-difference-race-makes-in-preemies

Its called "wimpy white boy syndrome" They tend to be the slowest to develop and have a harder time in a NICU setting than pretty much any other ethnicity and gender. My youngest was in the NICU for a while and I can not tell you how many times i heard him referred to as a "wimpy white boy." Started to make me mad at the end there.

I mean no they aren't a different species, but different ethnicities are more likely to get various illnesses and disorders where others aren't. It's bad news though for people like me who only have boys (4 in a row actually). Only 1 was delivered at micro preemie status, but the others took a lot of work to get to term. There's no guarantee if i ever decide to have more kids that the next baby wouldn't end up in the NICU for a significant amount of time.

I am having a boy this time and always go early. This makes me nervous since I had two girls prior and this one is a little boy I hope he goes to full term.

It's true. Their lungs develop slower and such. Girls tend to do better than boys (as in, less Nicu time or none at all) when born early.

Yeah it is true. But I think they are more at risk if they are preemies really. My son wanted to come beginning at 28 weeks and they were very concerned because boys lungs and hearts develop slower than girls. They started me on steroids immediately because they couldn't get my contractions to slow down and almost had to air lift me to a different hospital. Luckily he stayed in and was born nice and healthy. But I have always heard from drs that boys develop slower than girls and that it's more dangerous for boys to be born even a little bit earlier than their due dates because of the risks of complications.
