When to stop swaddling... Jax 3 kids; Sydney, NS, Australia 2888 posts

DS2 will be 6 months in a week, and im still swaddling him.
He hates not being wrapped, and even if he gets a hand loose during the night, he wont settle until i re-wrap him.
I forget how i did it with my older 2, but im pretty sure they were not being wrapped at this age.
Is it bad of me to keep him all nice and snug at 6 months?
And how can i transition him to sleep peacefully without being wrapped?

We stopped swaddling at 7 months.. I thought it was gonna be a hard transition but it was actually an easy one.

My friend was just having an issue with her 8 month old. One day she just stopped swaddling her. It was a tough transition but now her daughter loves being free. You just have to do it.

I stopped swaddling DS at like 3-4 weeks. Hes like his mama. Likes cuddling blankets but hates them on him :)

we stopped at 7 months because the swaddler was too small. but she slept fine without it so i'm no help with transitioning.

He just hates it. He sleeps 12 hours every night without waking up. One night i checked on him and his arms were free, so i thought id leave him to see how he went. I was up about 9 times with him, before i gave up and re-wrapped him.

Quoting J&T+3:" He just hates it. He sleeps 12 hours every night without waking up. One night i checked on him and his ... [snip!] ... were free, so i thought id leave him to see how he went. I was up about 9 times with him, before i gave up and re-wrapped him."

That's how I weaned him.. first just without arms... then finally without it at all

My LO was swaddled until about 7mos. He got too big for the swaddler so we just stopped using it. I don't remember it being a difficult transition at all but then again he was never a good sleeper with or without the swaddle.

If he hates having arms free you can try a straightjacket styled one that does legs free first. Here is a DIY on making your own from a receiving blanket (requires sewing): http://www.craftaholicsanonymous.net/infant-swaddler-the-straight-jacket-guest-blogger-vivian-from-craft-with-confidence

Or you can buy this for about $30: http://annaevellc.mybigcommerce.com/index.php Which I think is a tad overpriced for what you are getting.

If I were going to pay that much I'd try a woombie: http://www.woombie.com/convertible_leggies.html I haven't tried their convertible ones like this, but the regular woombies are awesome.
