Quoting Jas ♥:" I was just going to say this. Turning 18 doesn't mean you can take care of yourself 100% all of a sudden. You cannot turn into an adult overnight."

This & most don't until mid 20s.

I understand that but they still have teen at the end. If you have that teen at the end and depend on your parents you're still a teen in my eyes. She mentioned "Over 18 and they are adults, not teens in my view." I know in the eyes of the law and society they're technically adults.

But legally they don't HAVE to be. Before 18 you aren't considered an adult so in some level the system is set up for you to be dependent.

Again I understand this. OP asked what we consider a teen not what the law does.

A teen mom is when you have your kids in your teens.... ThirTEEN-NineTEEN. I know 18-19 your considered an adult but really technically your still in your teen years.

This.

I had my first child a couple months after I turned 17, I was finished with high school and an emancipated adult, neither of those things made me any less of a teen mom. Fact remained I was sevenTeen.

Yes, independent TEENagers. EighTEEN, nineTEEN. Every other age with "teen" at the end, people will call you a teenager but the magical age of 18 makes you a grown woman/man.

I had my daughter when I was 19. M was one day away from turning 19. We were teenagers although we financially supported ourselves 100%.

This. Pretty self explanatory.

:!: a lot of people get offended and say "well I was married and financially stable so I don't consider myself a teen mom" but the fact of the matter is being a teen mom isn't about the negative stereotypes surrounding it, it means you became a mom while still a teenager (thirTEEN to nineTEEN) at least IMO.

I think it's pretty cut and dry. If you're a teenager, and a mother, you're a teen mom.

My oldest son looooooooves pointing out that I was nineTEEN when I had him.. He thinks it's funny for some reason.

I've never really considered myself one though. We were married and living on our own and completely taking care of everything... Like real adults lol

What if they don't depend on their parents? When I had my son at 19, I was already on my own, with DH, finished cosmetology school and supporting myself with DH's help, but not my parents'.
