My 2 year old does not talk. GrumpsMama 1 child; Whiskey Dick Mountain, WA, United States 16073 posts

He used to talk to me, he knew a lot of words. He turned 2 in April.

Now the only words he uses are "mama, dada, ball, hot, cold, bath, play"

Anything I can do to get this little guy talking?

He knows how to count to 5, and his ABC up to F... but he will never say them for me. I'll hear him repeating them to himself.

I'll hear him say words like "watermelon" but he can't even say "milk"

Any tips?
--& I'm not mean about him talking, I don't force him.. but I do try to ask often.

Mine went through a stage like that. I made him ask for everything or he couldn't have it

My parents say I did not talk to them, they would go into my room and I would be playing and talking. I would not worry about it.

When P only knew like 5 words at 18 months, I just kinda let things happen on their own. However, sign language really helped her to communicate.

If you think he's just being stubborn, try rewarding him for saying things, rather than just pointing to things. "Do you want the milk? Can you say milk? M..i..l..k" (Don't make him too frustrated though) Repetition, repetition. Try flash cards, too.

You can also look into early speech therapy for him if nothing works.
