Jeepers...my parents (who I'm not in contact with, but whatever) and my best friend both live in Alberta...I know that my best friend is in Calgary, not sure if she's been evacuated yet...We're not sure if we're going to be evacuated at some point, as some of the evacuations are now mandantory in BC

This is Alberta right now...

Highway 1A...I've been on that bridge SO many times...

This digger was trying to build up the walls of the river to protect the bridge from washing out...no such luck. The guy operating it had to be carried out in a bucket from another digger:

This is in the town of High River, population 13,000 people. I grew up in this town...Last we heard, there is currently 12 feet of water in the downtown, with the river not expected to crest for at least another 6 hours:

Another video, this one of the Bow Falls near Banff:

At this point, there are an estimated 150,000 people who have been evacuated from their homes, with the possibility of another 100-200,000 who will be evacuated. We're praying that we're not among them, although we hear that our friends in Fairmont are facing evacuation right now.

A couple news links for articles on what's going down:

They are calling this one a disaster of historical proportions...High River is my hometown, home to 13,000 people. They're not sure if there is going to be anything to come home to right now...Calgary is home to over a million people, and is facing evacuation in it's downtown core. Canmore is a HUGE tourist destination, I've been there so many times for ski trips and such, and to see it wiped out...12 communities, including Calgary have been evacuated. This is insane...and so close to home for me.

Stay safe, Alberta and BC!

Yea my DH has said he has never seen flooding like this. We are in Calgary and the bow river is almost cresting over the dam. Once it does its going to be a total disaster. He is currently downtown and working until 11 but they are shutting down everywhere around him. I'm waiting to hear if he is going to be evacuated or not. And the winds have started up down in the SW of Calgary. Rain is going to start soon. I'm kind of freaking out. We are by fish creek river at home but that hasn't flooded over yet.
I feel so bad for High river and Canmore right now. They also have shut down highway 2A I believe.

ETA: crowsnest pass is a mess as well. Parts of Deerfoot in Calgary are shut down. Memorial Drive is shut down. Big massive streets and highways that run through Calgary pretty much.

I'm an AB girl who moved to BC, so I know exactly what area you're talking about...

I know there's been some rain in Alberta, but I CANNOT believe how much flooding there is right now. If the Bow crests the damn, that is going to be a nightmare. I mean, I don't know if they can keep people out of the path of it at that point...

I'd get him out of there, ASAP. They're asking people not to go into downtown Calgary right now...

I've been watching this all day and I can't believe it. I haven't seen horrible flooding like this before, not this close to home at least. Hopefully everyone stays safe!

Yikes its so crazy there right know. My fiance's family lives just south of Calgary and they can't leave their town at all, the bridges flooded.

Where do they live? I know they have the army out all around southern Alberta. They are even here in Calgary.

I live in northern Alberta and while we've had a ton of rain over the last couple weeks we haven't come close to flooding. My heart goes out to everyone being evacuated and facing evacuation.

What part of BC?? We're in Revelstoke right now...we moved here from Abbotsford, after moving from Calgary.

If the bow crests, it's doom. I mean, if that thing goes over...I don't even want to think about it.

I just got a call from my brother in-law...he said we need to be prepared to leave. We've had a LOT of rain lately, with more coming, and with evacuations happening east of us...we're not on high alert yet, but we have a couple bags ready to go just in case.

I was down in Surrey. Lived in Port Coquitlam for a bit with my ex but moved back home to my parents place. Moved out to Calgary about a year and a half ago.

Hopefully you guys don't have to evacuate.

The Bow and Elbow river both crested over and downtown is flooded. Zoo is practically gone. DH can't go to work today, his site is closed down. Doctors appointment is cancelled as the office is flooded out now. They trucked in Edmonton police to help out. Down by where we live Chapperall Valley was evacuated at 3 in the morning because of fish creek flooding over. So far the area DH and I are in is safe but there is another huge storm from coming in. I am officially freaked right out.
