But it's not going to the baby through its lungs. Not all smoking destroys your lungs especially vaporizers which isn't even smoke. There ate no adverse effects to smoking. No studies to prove its harmful. I'm just wondering where you get your info from?

It lowers the oxygen levels to you and baby witch is bad for the lungs. Smoking and vaping are two different things. I dont know what studies you are talking about but it does have ill affects on a fetus. So where are you getting your information from?

There are absolutely adverse side-effects on the fetus from smoking... :? It lowers the baby's oxygen intake contributing to small birth weight and birth defects... Everyone knows that...

I'm a L&D nurse.... hate to tell you but it WILL show up. The meconium test will show positive for anything taken since the baby's GI tract developed. They don't test all babies though.. it's an expensive test and has to be sent out.

they only test if they suspect drug abuse.

I don't understand. They test for illegal drugs. They test for illegal drugs. Marijuana is not legal here, so testing positive for THC is still drug abuse.

I was always taught the difference between use and abuse, thats all. Legal drugs can be abused and probably a lot more easily than illegal drugs. What if a nurse suspects drug abuse and the mother only comes up with oxycodone or codeine in her system? What happens then?

I guess my question should have been how do they screen for abuse? I was just legitimately curious.

if she has a prescription for them, then they are not abuse. if they are in her system without a prescription, it's legally abuse.
