my son was admitted last night. P E N I S Due February 27; 34 kids; Washington 13746 posts

My son has extreme behavioral issues. He started daycare this 3 days ago. He had an out urst so bad yesterday that the other kids needed to leave the room as they could not get him to leave. So naturally they called me to pick him up.

I started calling gabriels team of doctors and therapists. His pediatrician was out of the office. His therapist and psychiatrist would not help me. Instead I receoved a "gabriel needs more help than what we can offer so we are going to refer him o
To some plave else. And it might take awhile to get him in" all while I am in crisis with gabriel....

So I took him to children's. Gabriels pedi and I had come up with that in the event he was in crisis and I couldnt find any other help. It seemed like they were going to tell me the same things ive heard from multiple places " oh hes fine", "sorry there's nothing we can do" "unfortunately hes just too young" but I did have documentation from the daycare about his behavior.

For the last 6 months he has been seeing things, like an imaginary friend of some sorts. Different "friends" have different names and do different things. Yesterday, it was the "bad man" controlling his body. I had previously chalked it up to just his imagination but they kept pressing abiut it in the ER eval.

Anyway, since we have molina and live in a different county than childrens they said they werent going to be able to admit him. After a very long rebuttle from me, the case workee said she may have an idea but its a very long shot and it almost never works. They called someone in the county I live in to call a physician who would be able to approve gabriel for admittance to children's.

They had to explain the situation to one person so then had to explain to the doctor who then would have to explain the situation to other professionals if needed. We waited for a few hours. Then around 1 in the morning I was told gabriel was approved for admittance for 5 days.

I honestly just feel horrible. Ive cried non stop all night. Im trying to find other parents who have had children in IPU and what their experience was like and how it effected your child.

Any advice helps.

I have no advice, but I'm sorry :( hang in there! Could it be scitzophrenia or something? I don't even know. How old is he?

Im not sure. He does exhibit some signs of schizophrenia but hes so young snd im not sure how diagnosing that goes. Hes 4. He will be 5 next month. He was said to have childhood onset bipolar disorder and he was diagnosed with ODD and ADHD

I'm so sorry mama. I know what a struggle you've been having. I don't really have experience with this with kids. My ex's brother is schizophrenic but doesn't have the other issues so he acts differently.

Look up January with schizophrenia, a little girl who has had it since birth. Her story was on TLC I think, and her mom has a support group for children with mental health issues. Good luck OP!

This is what I thought as well. It reminds me of that little girl that has it and they made a show about her, I can't remember the name but she sees all the "friends" with weird names like seven and stuff.

I have no advice, but I'm so sorry mama. You're doing what's best for him though.

Hopefully they figure out what is going on with him. I would be at a loss as a parent too, and mental health issues are not something to mess with.

Thanks everyone. I have heard of Jani. Her case is extreme. Gabriel seems to exhibit some of the classic signs but im not sure if he would have enough to be diagnosed as a schizophrenic, if that makes sense.

Some things we see on a dsily basis are
Exteme aggression and mood swings
Violent outbursts
Physical harm to himseld
Threatening to harm himself
Threatening to run away...then actually running away
Incoherant speech
Talking ro "friends"
Hearing things that arent there
Refuses to care for himself ie brushing teeth, bathing
Food rituals and food hoarding also over eats
Cannot sit still or focus on one thing
Over reacts or does not react normally to daily situations.

List can go on... and he has been in and out of the health care system for the last few years. Professionals refusing to help me solely based on his age.

There are personality disorders that are a couple steps under Schizophrenia also.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/schizoaffective-disorder/DS00866/DSECTION=symptoms

I meant to post just the personality disorder link:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/personality-disorders/DS00562/DSECTION=tests-and-diagnosis

Personality disorders is just an umbrella over the top of many disorders. Search "Personality Disorder" on the Mayo site and it will show all of them in the search.

I know a little it like this. He's 6 now I think. But he was diagnosed with severe autism. He was the sweetest boy you ever met. Asked me several times to be his valentine, and always asking me if I would dance with him. But he had major behavioral issues. Trouble interacting with others. Trouble listening, paying attention and stuff like that. He had 'friends' also. He would sometimes go bang his head against the wall till he drew blood. It was so sad. He told his mom once, 'mommy I think God put my brain in upside down .' That made me cry! But he understood he was different. He was in the Special Ed class in school but had no further treatment.
Sorry your having trouble and I hope he the gets help he needs!
Hang in there. And loving him is the best help for that!

I'm so sorry. I can imagine that this is really overwhelming. I really hope he gets the help and treatment he needs, hopefully someone will overlook his age so that you can intervene before things escalate.
