300lbs and exercise? Mama of *3* TTC since Feb 2013; 3 kids; Wisconsin 15841 posts

Ok, 4 years ago I was 180lbs and in a 2 piece bathing suit (I'm 5'8")...had 3 kids in 3 years and didn't even care about what I ate and when. Now I'm 311lbs and HUGE. My knees ache, my back hurts and I'm winded so easily.

Im waiting on a membership to the Y where I can get on a treadmill...so in the meantime I decided to attempt a workout video from youtube. A 30min aerobic workout with a lot of jumping around. I got 10 minutes in and felt like I was about to pass out. My ankles hurt like crazy.

My question is....if you are or were at some point this big...what did you do for workouts when you first started out? I havent exercised more than normal walking since I was pregnant!

Start slow. The biggest is getting into a routine. I just started walking 45min to an hour every night. Look for low impact exercises. I barely could get through 15 min of the biggest looser workout on my xbox but 15 min is better than nothing. Swimming is also great.

That is reassuring. Im just not used to being so big and out of shape. At 180 I could run 2 miles without any issues...and now I cant even survive with 10 minutes of jumping around :(

Did you start out doing just part of a video? I have that shred dvd and never opened it :?

Do walking, try to eat healthier.

I was never at that weight, but when I exercise I hate all the jumping around in those videos. I enjoy doing kettle bells.

See and that is what I feel like I need to be doing. I can power walk a lot longer without being so out of breathe than this running in place and doing jumping jacks non stop. Its a lot easier on my knees too. Wish I had room here for a treadmill! I was thinking about just walking in place in my living room for 20 minutes tonight instead haha.

What were you doing for diet?

My knees KILL me with all the jumping around. They are not doing well, having all this weight to hold up. I gained 60lbs in 11 months :? I have an appointment to have my thyroid checked (weight came on SO fast), but I have a feeling its mostly from just enjoying food TOO much and not getting out to do anything this past year!

How big were you when you started if you dont mind me asking? I guess thats kind of how Im feeling tonight...I actually got my heart rate up tonight, and I havent done that in years really...so its better than what I did last night (sat here and watched tv lol)....Maybe if I just do like 10-15min a couple times a day to start out, my body will get used to the idea of doing something again!

I'm out of shape too but I found some good exercise videos that are fairy easy and easy to follow but do make you sweat and sore and I love them, hope these work out for you and good luck on your journey to getting in shape.

Yeah, I don't doubt that it would be good for your joints to do all the jumping.
I hated it because I have big b**bs and that hurts my back, lol!

But seriously, kettle bells are awesome. It gets your heart beat up and it's pretty stationary. Lots of squatting movements but your feet almost never leave the ground. :) work outs only need to be 20-30 minutes
The kettle bell costs about 30.00

Is that a lot of protein? Im not even sure what normal is.

Good luck with your bypass! It has crossed my mind...but I'm a chicken. I need to get my ass in gear and see what diet and exercise does for me

My heaviest was 299 I am currently 281. I have a bad ankle and wrist from bad breaks that never healed right as a child so all the jumping and push ups and such kill me.
