What could I do? ~The Lunar Flower~ Due January 13; 1 child; Alabama 6738 posts23rd Jun
I am due with my 2nd in January. At that point my son will be 13-14 months old. All of DH's family & mine live a good 40-120 minutes away so they don't see DS often. When I deliver, would DS be able to stay in the hospital with DH & I? I just don't want him being with family he's not fully comfortable around. He's also still breastfeeding & will be at the time. I considered possibly trying to choose a friend locally for him to stay with but none of them really know anything about kids & I would be afraid they wouldn't take good care of him.

None of the hospitals I delivered at would allow an overnight guest with the exception if DH. However my daughter was present for labor and delivery she had to be out by 7.

My son was allowed (he is 3) just ask the nurse if it is ok they will usually tell you as long as your child is not being loud and disturbing other patients he should be fine to stay.

My breastfed daughter was 13.5 months old when I went into labor with my son. She was not "supposed to" be in the room with us, but they "allowed" it until our family drove up from Portland, 5 hours. Husband was in and out of the room with me after that, because we really coolant leave her alone with grandma who she (obviously) didn't see much. Luckily the timing worked out well for us in that Jose was able to get her to bed and come back to the hospital for birth. (And the few hours before.) My mom stayed home with her while she slept, Joe was born just before 2am, a couple hours later Lara woke up and *needed* daddy, so he went home and my mother stayed in the hospital with me for a while. Jose brought Lara back later for first family moments and stuff, but they didn't stay the following night with Joe and I in the hospital.
