I don't know. I am really surprised there are so many people who do this. I took a car seat safety class at my hospital when I had my last baby. I admit that before then, I did not know the proper way to adjust straps and stuff, but I did know that kids that young still belong in a car seat.

I think they have good intentions but lack the proper education. A military spouse I'm friends with FF her 7 month old simply because she could. Her state had no laws about it and there is no real "information" given to her by hospitals to support it.

I really thought most hospitals would be like mine and offer car seat safety classes. More hospitals should take after the Banner hospitals here in AZ.

I turned DS1 and DD at about 10-11 months, but I didn't know any better. I just went off what my mom said. I also didn't know how to do the straps correctly. But during my pregnancy with DS2, I did a ton of research on everything and he is still RF at 17 months.

It's one thing to not be informed. But when you've been told (not saying OP has, just saying in general) and they still do stuff like this that is unsafe is what gets to me.

Unfortunately they don't. I'm from CA (apparently the strictest state with car seat safety) and when I had my daughter the nurse didn't even check and see if I had a car seat to take DD home in. She walked me to the car, put my wheelchair in park and walked off.

There are a lot of gaps as far as informing people goes. I had no idea about ERF until I had already flipped my daughter and gotten a Graco Nautilus. If it weren't for this site I probably would have never heard of it.

Its pretty scary how badly this kind of information gets passed around :(

I'm on my 3rd kid and 2 out of the 3 (she's not here yet) the nurses never even asked if I had a car seat or not

Wow. Here they will not even let you leave the hospital without seeing your car seat and making sure you put the baby in it properly.

I used a my ride 65 to take my daughter home and it was in the car and they wheeled me out with her and never even asked about a seat, just walked back in
