high heart rate and never-ending mucus nolamom11 Due January 15 (girl); 1 child; New Orleans, Louisiana 674 posts

The past few days I've had sooo much mucus in my throat- I'm constantly clearing my throat. It feels a lil tickly, and at night it gets worse. Last night, I couldn't stop coughing- when i FINALLY got to sleep, I woke up gasping cause the phlem was soo thick in my throat. yuk. anyone had a simliar thing happen ? is it related to pregnancy? Ive read that you get increased mucus ... and dairy makes it thicker? I consume TONS of dairy...... So I avoided it today- so far, it seems less irritating.

Went to the dr today, to have him check it- he says its a virus, just to gargle salt water and take an antihistimine. I also mentioned that my heart rate is always 105ish, and wanted to know if that was normal....

The nurse who took my blood pressure (which was normal) seemed shocked at my pulse (114 at the time), but the dr, not so much. (this was my general dr, not my obgyn, so maybe shes not used to pregnant lady pulses?) it really made me feel awful. They did an ekg (normal) and sent me for bloodwork to check my liver, kidneys and thyroid (had this done a couple years ago, and it was all fine) so the dr thinks I've just got some anxiety. I don't want to take any anxiety medication while pregnant. BUT if i dont, is this going to hurt my baby?

It's fairly normal. My heart is always racing. My normal heart rate is 60-70 when I'm not pregnant. Now it climbs to 130-140 at times. You're probably not drinking enough water. Dehydration can cause your heart rate to increase, but it's also normal in pregnancy. Besides, 105 is barely above the norm.

well that seems to be the average when i check it- when i'm just sitting around the house. It was 114 at the dr. I live in New Orleans, so its sooo hot and humid here, I drink a ton of water- but probably not enough when I factor in how much i loose due to the heat.... i dunno.

Keep a water bottle with you at all times. That's what I have to do, because my heart starts pounding and I get extremely light-headed almost daily. It's annoying.

yeah i usually do.... but just making sure high heart rate wouldn't hurt the baby. anxiety can't be good for him though?

A pregnant woman should consume 90-120 ounces of water thru out her day during pregnancy this is also important for placental health! Drink up!
