those times were very unfortunate. and i'm sorry your grandmother had to go through that. but.... shouldn't that make you even more inclined to NOT think rappers or black people should be entitled to the word?? i mean maybe i misunderstood your post, but it seems like a major double standard.

It's not "getting over it". You remember the atrocities. But simply put people are trolls, and by reacting, you're only feeding the trolls. Realistically speaking nothing and nobody can make people stop saying the word n****r, but if people stopped reacting to it then there wouldn't be a point of saying it anymore.

Quoting Destinite:" Get over it wouldn't be the right phrase, but "time to move on" is more appropriate. People worry so much about the past and we all need to enjoy the present and look forward to the future. "

words of wisdom!!

There is no doubt that blacks have gone through hell, but so have Hispanics and as Pusherman pointed out, Muslims are still being hated on viciously at this time. We have given black people every right that whites have and then some, and yet it's still not good enough. Yes, Paula Deen should be punished for using a racial slur. But enough is enough.

Just because I have a different background, I can get in trouble for using a certain word....that means I now have less rights than a black person. Yet any black celebrity can get on TV and make racialjokes an assumptions about whites, Muslims, Hispanic, and Asian people and that's totally fine.

And I am by no means racist and you'll never hear me say the N-word. But I should have the right to say whatever the f**k I want.

Yeah but the saying "Stick and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" Is BS to me.I get offended.I got called n****rs at school used to cry and hide out in the bathroom. In high school the hispanics would call me mayates, chongas,n****r ect..I got jump by a group of mexicans during tge race riots here.I have been through alot.I am sorry if i take offense to the word n****r.

Exactly. I know my kids won't hear any words like that at our home. DH and I are VERY particular about what we say/do around our children. Too bad words like that can't just be dropped all together, then no one would have to worry about any of it.

still kind of confused why you stated that it did not matter though, when black people or rappers say it. you still haven't addressed that.

I may have worded it wrong.I was trying to say just because rappers/black people use that ugly word does not mean what paula deen said was justified.I hate that word.I should have put nobody has the right.

I'm sorry that you've gone through that. Honey I've had rocks thrown at me, been spit on, had my scarf ripped off my head and have had people try to run me over. You know I won't even leave my house on 9/11 because neo-patriots decide to get all nutso on that day? Everyone has struggles. Women, gays, Jews, blacks, Hispanics, EVERYONE. But you can't be sensitive cuz you're giving the racists what they want. Be strong in the face if racism. And I won't bother with the argument that black people use it in lyrics/comedy/movies cuz obviously they don't mean the same thing when people say it with the intention to hurt but at the same time it shouldn't have two meanings depending on who is saying it. When a black man says n***a it basically means "bro" but when a non-black says it it's hurtful?

There's way more awesome people than shitty people. But the masses tend to only focus on negativity.

Thank you hun.I am sorry about what happened to you.My best friend is from lebanon and she lies about her race because since 9/11 Her family was treated badly.I am getting over it little by little.I used to punch someone in the face for calling me a n****r now i just walk away.I am also married to a mexican man with two almost three biracial kids.I dont have hard feelings against a whole race because some morons out that race are racist.Other than me being jumped at 14 it's just been words.
