My dramatic birth story- 30 weeks pregnant. PreemiePowerOn 1 child; 2 angel babies; Gaylord, MI, United States 51 posts

starting week 20 of my pregnancy I had some complications, that I didn't share. Thankfully I made it another 10 weeks! On April 13th, I woke up swelled and with the worst migraine ever. I told no one because it was my baby shower. Evidently the whole baby shower was spent in the bathroom getting very ill. I don't remember it at all! From the shower I went to the hospital. My husband and in-laws wanted me to just go home and rest it off. My parents ended up taking me to the hospital because I was out of it and throwing up blood. I got to L&D and my blood pressure was so high I was nearly having a stroke. After this point, I don't remember much. I do remember them giving me a steroid shot just in case they had to deliver my son. The next day, they surprisingly sent me home. at home everything continued to get worse. the morning of the 15th I ended back in the hospital to be monitored. My blood pressure started becoming out of control again, and my protein was triple what it should have been. I got surprising and scary news that I was being transferred 4 hours away from to be monitored and maybe sent home in a couple weeks. I was going to spend my birthday in the hospital ( the 16th). My husband ended up not being able to make it down with me. That night, in Grand Rapids, Mi I started having contractions unexpectedly. I was told to be prepared to have my baby the next morning, on my birthday. I went in to surgery, with alone without family or friends at 9:30 and at 9:59 my son, Zander Lewis was delivered butt first. His head got stuck. His cord was wrapped 3 times and he wasn't breathing. It was the worst moment of my life! They ran with him before I could see him. It took them 4 minutes to resuscitate my son . I went back to recovery, not knowing if my son was dead or alive. 4 hours later I got to go up to the Children's hospital and see him. He weighted 3.3 pounds with all the life saving things on him at birth, but without he was a tiny 2.9 pounds and 15 inches long. He was hard to see through all his wires and cords. His lungs collapsed and he ended on a ventilator and had surgery to insert a chest tube. He also had severe jaundice that made him appear black. I couldn't hold him for a week. Odds were against him. Surprisingly he was a little warrior and spent only a month and a half in the NICU before coming home, compared to what they were expecting, if it happened at all. I'm proud to say I did it all on my own, spent all day and every night with him. I lived in his room, and now I have a beautiful 7.4 pounder, 19 inch boy who is thriving everyday :). I would love some friends of preemies here, and even on Facebook. I'm feeling pretty alone ;(

What a story! Definitely a miracle no doubt! I just had my son June 15 (27 weeks and 6 days), and he weighed 2 pounds 7 oz. He'll be two weeks tomorrow. He's been doing really good since he's been born and I'm just hoping and praying he keeps doing as good as he has been! Thanks for sharing your story, and feel free to message me if you would like or add me on facebook :)

Both my boys were in the nicu there. That's why I am going back this time that way just in case something happens I know ans trust the des and nurses that would take care of my baby.

I considered it if I have any more kids. For many reasons. For one there's a nicu. For two they're csection rates are fairly low. For three they're more vbac friendly than midland. For 4 if I need a csection they use glue not staples (like midland uses) which looks a whole lot nicer lol and 5 I loved dr therun. The only problem is that I wouldn't be able have my wonderful OB cause he's in midland :(

You sound like how I was when I was induced. I was induced at 35 weeks for basically the same reasons. It sucks you had to have surgery though =[ You're welcome to pm me! My daughter is 2 months old now and weighs 8lbs! =] I'm glad your son is doing so well!
