pitocin/postpartum depression link? Chelsea + Jude 1 child; Texas 643 posts

I have been struggling with depression since the birth of my son almost two years ago, and recently wondered if the pitocin IV they gave me to help with contracting the uterus AFTER the birth (I specifically said no pitocin, but remember reading that the IV bag was oxytocin when I was in recovery) had affected the way my body naturally produces and uses oxytocin?
In other words, could having that pitocin drip have caused postpartum depression that hasn't gone away?

I had pitocin and an epidural with my son. It took me a long time to recover, and I did have PPD. I had my daughter completely naturally, and had no PPD, and recovery was a lot easier.

Please share the link to this post with friends here on BG and ask them to respond to the poll. I really am trying to see if this could be a possible cause of not only my PPD but what other side effects could I (or my son, who was EBF) have had from this stuff that I DID NOT consent to having!!

don't even know WHEN they started the pitocin, Iam pretty sure it was after the birth, sometime between then, and when I noticed the label on the bag. I didn't have any problems delivering the placenta, but there was some commotion around my son just after he was born (he had millia, which i was told is very rare in Caucasian babies, the nurses didn't realize from reading the chart that the sperm donor was black (more common so I was told), and they freaked out, freaking me out, and called the pediatrician at midnight to come look at him), and thus I wasnt paying so much attention to what they were doing to me, I was worried about him!
I fully think they took advantage of my distracted state, and gave me what was "routine" because they didnt think i would care since he was already out
