Interesting!
At first, I thought this story was a silly yesterday's thread saying that moms SHOULD smoke pot. But, the more I think of it, the more I think there MAY be something to it.
This will be very difficult to measure in humans given the social taboo here in the US and elsewhere, but it would be great if we could get a accurate picture of the degree of suicipus pollutants and the percentage of homosexuality. Again, measurements would be difficult due to the social issures. For example,Iran "has no gay people" because of the punishment for being gay. Do they also have low amounts of that pollutant??

just as a side note ... did you know that Iran encourages and pays for sex changes because then they are technically 'not gay' anymore.

Lol. If it was found that maternal diet influenced sexuality, that would mean that the babies WERE born gay or straight .

The only one of these studies that ever made sense to me was one saying that it had something to do with mom's hormones during conception and pregnancy taking an effect on the baby's brain chemistry. I think it was in a Discovery magazine like 5 years ago. lol.

I can just see all of the tightwad old ladies beating themselves up over eating a few tuna sandwiches. :P I mean I guess it's as feasible as any other theory, but in the end, why does it matter?

Yes,BUT I think it might be helpful as the child would be seen as born that way. It might be helpful.

Sure. SOME would. Some gay people would eagerly take a true "cure." Perhaps there would be a cure OR perhaps the controversy would be settled in that people would view sexuality as being predetermined like eye color.

Why does anything matter? Because we, as human beings, want to understand. You can NEVER know, in the midst of looking into one thing, what other things may be uncovered & what may come of that. Many of our greatest discoveries started off as search for something else. 2 of the drugs in the 3 drug cocktail that today cures leoprosy started off as a tuburculosis treatment. The discovery of insulin to treat diabetes started off as research into how the pancreas aids in digestion. It was not known at that time it had anything to do with insulin.

Unless people are afraid of the truth, I fail to see how the studying of ANY one subject should be considered taboo or insignificant. Each little piece we learn about human biology has the potential to lead us into new territory we didn't previously understand.

Science has, in our modern era, tended to get rid of witch burning & voodoo beliefs systems...so I can't think it is a bad thing if we understand how sexual attraction works.
