If you have a really awesome/sharp knife set what brand is it? How long have you had it? and how much did it cost?
I'm sure you can find one made by Paula deen on clearance somewhere. Lol Jk

Last Christmas my hubby got me a knife set by J.A. Henckels and he didn't give me a specific number but from what I see online I would guess between 350-450 for the 6 piece set (4 knives, 1 block, 1 sharpener) I absolutely love them. They say to sharpen after each use but I'm a slacker and haven't sharpened them yet, started noticing about a month ago that they weren't quite as sharp as they used to be so I probably will do it soon.
I have a really nice Henckels knife set from Macy's that we've had for 8 years. We got it on sale for about $300 and it was worth it because they've lasted and are still in excellent shape.

At that price I might be waiting until christmas
We have a Henckels set and Wustoff set. Both are very nice. I don't have to sharpen often at all.
They range in price depending on what kind of set you want.

Once a year lol.
I cook for a living and most of my knives are GLOBALS - I prefer asian style knives (these are made in Japan) - they tend to be more lightweight and less bulky than european style knives. These are ideal for me because I do a lot of precision cutting at work and the lighter knife saves my joints.
I buy my cutlery piecemeal (I have some F.Dick, Wustof and Tojiro brand knives) but you can get a 3 pc starter set for just under $200.
