If a person were to go into the mental hospital could it ever come back to "bite them in the butt" in any way?

You mean prevent them from getting a job or something? No. You don't have disclose any mental health information when applying for a job unless you're going to be a direct service provider like a police officer, firewoman, teacher, etc.

It could yes. Some jobs (such as law enforcement) would look down on a mental health history.

It can, but it's unlikely. You're not required to disclose that information to most people. And if it was a long time ago and you were discharged by a psychiatrist (like, you didn't leave against medical advice) then it hardly holds any weight at all. But, if you wanted a job that looks into that sort of thing, it could bring up an issue.

Do any jobs other than law enforcement look into that?

Not necessarily time in a mental hospital, but being diagnosed with with a mental disorder can cause you to have insurance issues down the line as it's considered a pre existing condition. My sister doesn't have an "official" diagnosis of BPD for this reason.

I've been put in the mental hospital 4 times from the ages of 12-16. I got my first job at 14, it's never came back to haunt me at all. A job has never brought it up at all.

It could for certain jobs but most jobs don't even have to know
