Gay marriage? Belle De Jour Due October 8 (boy); 2 kids; Kentucky 19179 posts

This is a question for the people who are against it since I literally know NO one irl that is against it.
Why are you so against it??
If you are religious and feel it's against God's will then why not let God handle it when it comes to their judgment day? How does it effect you in any way shape or form for gays to get married?
If you aren't religious and just think it's gross or what ever it is you think, then again, how does a gay couple getting married effect you at all?
Sure, to you it may be gross but I'm sure there are TONS of things in this world that gross you out and I don't see you trying to stop them?
I just really don't get the mindset of the people that are so against gay marriage. So I'm seriously asking for your opinions on this so I can understand your thought process a little better.

Well, I am all for it....

...but the fundies down here claim that once America agrees with this, they nation will be "turning it's back" on God and America will go to shit (not like it hasnt already.) They feel like their beliefs are being trampled on and they have the responsibility sticking up for "what god wants."

I got all this from going on my local new's facebook page.

I could care less about someone's thought process over gay marriage.

All in all we know they are most likely picking and choosing what to live by from the bible.

How a "Christian" is against gay marriage but had sex before marriage, which the bible says the women should be executed. I see it all the time.

Not everyone believes there should be a separation of church and state.

People think that marriage is rooted in religion. Personally, I think the WEDDING is a religious ceremony... marriage is a governmental contract between two individuals having little to nothing to do with religion.

But America has NOTHING to do with religion. That's why America was "made".

I've always wondered this. My mom and stepmom have been together for 15 years, just got Married in April.

As far as I'm concerned, holy matrimony is religious. If Christians don't want gays to have holy matrimony, fine. Whatever. But to me, MARRIAGE is a civil right. Not a religious one. And that shouldn't be an issue.

Well that's just stupid. Why should we cater to just the Christians? That wouldn't be very fair to the other half of the country :?

Yup. A country founded to give religious freedom, but now people are trying to use religion to take away freedoms.

I'm a Christian and I feel the same...it's God's place to judge. Not mine.

I'm for marriage equality. Though technically from what I was raised to believe, accepting it or condoning it is a sin because I should be trying to preach to them or something. But again, I don't believe it's my place.

technically speaking, no.
Only because I'm anal about history.

The first Americans didn't want religious freedom for everyone. They wanted their religion ONLY to be practiced in America.
