tubes tied after birth? I♡C&R. 2 kids; Thornton, CO, United States 25314 posts

If you got your tubes tied after the birth of baby, how was it? Do they make you stay in hospital longer like a c section? Assuming I have a natural birth...

I know they put you under, but how soon after did you see baby? Recovery bad?

Any tips, advice, or thoughts welcome. Thanks in advance.

They tried to do mine after my vaginal birth but couldn't 'visualize' my tubes. I wasnt put out, they just used my epidural that I already had and gave me something to make me loopy. I didn't have to stay any longer and the recovery from that surgery I hardly noticed, since I was also recovering from child birth.

P s I got to see my baby again within 2 hours.

My good friend had her tubes tied after her 4th kid (1st being a vag birth, the other 3 were all c-sections) and yes, she told me the recovery sucked, she really wishes she hadn't had it done.

I've also heard that your periods can be quite bad, once I heard that, I'm not having mine tied haha.

Are you having yours done?

I was wondering all of this also since I plan on getting my tubes tied after this LO.

I'm glad you asked because I was wondering these same things. I'm having my tubes tied after I deliver this baby. I signed my paper work last week but all she really told me was that I'd get an epidural and they'd tie my tubes, she didn't say I'd be put under because I asked if I'd feel it and if it'd hurt. She said I'd deliver one day and then the next I'd have another epidural and have my tubes tied and I wouldn't have to stay longer.

I'm considering having it done for personal reasons, but I'll call insurance on Monday to be sure of prices for me VS hubby. Then, I'll talk to OB closer to time if I decide I am the one. I don't want an epidural so this is why I ask. I will probably be put under, which I prefer.

I was originally going to after I have my 3rd but after doing research on it, the hubby and I decided against a tubal and he's going to get a vasectomy.

I didn't have mine tied I had bands placed on my tubes so that they would die off. I missed the 30 day wait so had to have them 6weeks pp. I was put under and had my belly cut. The gas from surgery was HORRIBLE. that was probably the worst part. I haven't noticed any difference in my flow though from having it done.

I had a vaginal delivery. They waited until the next day to tie my tubes. Gave me a spinal (which in the long run gave me more problems then if they would have just put me under). Recovery from the surgery wasn't bad for me...it was the spinal headache I got since they couldn't get my spinal in (I was poked over 9 times in my spine trying to get it in). Other than that it was a simple easy procedure for me. I seen the baby about an hour after I got back to my room from surgery.

They have this procedure called Essurance or something like that. I know they have it in my state, but it's done in the doctor's office. Done in 10 mins. It's permanent. No cutting or anything. I would do some research on that. I'm just going to get an IUD.

I'm wondering some of the same myself.
My OB is just doing it while I'm recovering from my C-Section. We signed the papers about two months ago. With my insurance (I'm still on my parents'), my tubal isn't going to cost us anything, but birth control of any form is 100% covered.

Just make sure you talk with them at least two months before you deliver or before if you decide that's what you want to do because when I decided to talk with my doctor about it, she was like you need to sign the paper work now just incase something happens and you deliver early, they won't be able to do the procedure until it has been 30 days since you signed the consent form but she made it very clear that if I signed it, it didn't mean that I had to get them tied, just that I was thinking about it.

My mom told me that they pumped her stomach with gas and the heartburn she had was horrible, she had to eat tums and rolaids for like the whole day after having her surgery but after that she felt fine.

Can you tell them that you'd rather be put under than having a epidural or spinal? I think I'd rather be put under because I'm scared my anxiety will kick in and I'll freak the f**k out.

I don't want an epidural or spinal for multiple reasons. I am going to talk to the OB about having me put under. My stomach shouldn't have to be blown up since I'd have just had the baby. I don't care if they take me from one room to the next within minutes to get it done. My husband would be fine with baby.
