Tricare referral?? HK Crazy! Due November 23; 1 child; Colorado 2219 posts

I just moved out of state to be with family because my husband went on TDY. My mothers house is about 32 mins away for base and honestly this is too far from me. I would rather see a doctor much closer and not have to worry about the distance or gas. I have an appointment with my new PCM and I am hoping he will give me a referral to see a civilian doctor. So basically what I'm asking is is it easy to get a referral or do I have to jump through hoops?

It's simple, it just takes a little time to process. I had to do the same thing when I lived in WA, because they assigned me to a doc in Oregon.

No, it wasn't for me and we lived on the base. But, if all else fails you can switch to Standard...you'll just have to decide if the cost is worth the inconvenience of driving 30min. Good Luck!

Dont need a referral.. just go to tricare office on base ( if no office call tricare) ask to switch your doc. they wont mind as long as you pick a doc that takes tricare... and honestly 32 miles isnt that far for a doc. its not like u go everyday. but whatever :-)

Why the heck did they give you a doctor in OR? My DH is medically retired and we live right outside of Portland. If he needs to do anything military related we have to drive all the way up to McChord and that is a 2 1/2-3 hour drive for us.

It actually depends. For me, they wanted me to see a primary doctor for my pregnancy, so when I had to switch to a closer location and wanted an OB, I had to get a referral to change.

IDK. I was 45 min away from the military hospital on ft. lewis, and that was apparently out of range, so they assigned me to a doctor 4 hours away lol.
