I have RA and I'm always in a tremendous amount of pain. However, right now I'm having a flareup and have been on my feet a lot this past week with the 4th and then my daughter's 1st birthday party. Anywho, I'm on prescriptions for my RA, but not a pain killer because the last one made me sick. My fingers hurt so bad that I can barely bend them - I can't bend my right hand at all. My knees are so swollen and painful that it took everything I had to get down the stairs this morning....our bathrooms are in the basement and on the upper level so it's a pain in the ass. I feel like a wimp if I ask for pain relief... like there is no cure for RA so it's something I have to deal with, and by asking for pills I feel like I suck. Hard to explain..I just don't want to start all these drugs now and then need them for the rest of my life. The pain is no doubt affecting my everyday life and tasks that I have to do (dishes, laundry)... WWYD?

If I ask, what should I ask for?

There's nothin wrong with asking for help when you need it. You can get off it when the flare up lessens :( good luck.

Thank you. This pain is just so unreal...ALL the time and then when I have a flareup, doing anything is unbearable :(

If you don't want pain killers like that maybe you can try natural remedies.. Baltic amber, essential oils, medical MJ.. Good luck

I would rather deal with hurt pride than a hurting body.
Get something for the pain

I have RA, haven't had a bad flare for a while. When I'm in bad pain I take something and if not I don't. That;s what painkillers are for. Don't be ashamed to ask for help your rheumatologist should know what you can try that will help.

I'm not worried about the getting addicted part. I just feel like a wimp because I've only been officially diagnosed for a little less than a year and I sometimes have the attitude, "I don't know how I'm going to do this for 60 more years." It's been making me depressed, but I feel like a failure when I think that way, because there are plenty of others with the same disease that are still kickin'... just sucks. I called and left a message for the doctor and was told the nurse would call me back and let me know.

I just see my family doctor right now, but I go back to the rheumatologist in August finally. That's the soonest he could get me in. Thank you. So nice hearing from someone with RA. Sorry you have to deal with it though.
