Is it true you shouldn't do ab toning exercises until you lose weight?

If you work your muscles now, you will not only burn more fat, but when you do lose the fat, you will have muscles :)

here's the conflict. Muscle weighs more than fat. when you build muscle AND burn fat at the same time... it can be hard to track and people get frustrated with the numbers. BUT.... if you go by measurements and not lbs... it's fine.
also.. keep in mind that having toned muscle increases your metabolism. you will burn MORE calories at rest with toned muscles than if you don't work your muscles.
so.. up to you.
I'd also like to add, doing appropriate ab routines now increase core strength and encourage proper posture when doing cardio and weights which if lacking leads to injury. That's just like when people say if woman lift weights they will get buff like a man. No. Full body toning is ideal forfat loss. Work on the foundation or ull end up skinny fat
