It was a carpenter ant. Those bastards hurt when they bite you. The easiest way to get them off is by popping off their head.

We have inch ants, they bite and don't let go ( I think they actually eat meat) they also bite repeatedly and can cause anaphylaxis if you get bitten repeatedly. When you kill them you have to step on them pretty hard as they have really hard bodies. Dh got bitten on the leg stomach and hand, he had red bite marks, red and swollen area around the bite, the next day he was bruised all around the bite site (he said it was really painful) , we went to the chemist and they gave us antihistamines and a numbing cream to help with the pain.

Looks slightly similar but his pain was gone in 15-20 minutes and he's breathing fine, no symptoms and the redness around the bite has gone away. I'm thinking it's the top ant in the above picture that was posted
