Starting to get nervous/anxious! Emily Kearney 2 kids; Chesterton, Indiana 58 posts14th Jul
I'm 31 weeks. I'm really starting to get nervous about how my DD is going to adjust to having a new baby sister. I'm due 11 days before her 9th birthday. With her having been an only child (and only grandchild on my side of the family, which she spends WAY more time with) for so long, I'm worried about how she will adjust to this huge change in her life. She has never been one to deal with change well. She, of course, is VERY excited about becoming a big sister. Anyone been through a similar experience with a large age gap between their children? Any ideas on how to help her adjust to to her new sister?

My son adjusted pretty good to having a new baby sister. At first he kind of didn't really care about her but now that she's getting older and crawls he interacts more and tells her he loves her its cute. I wouldn't worry much just try to have the older sister be involved with the baby and make sure you try to spend one on one time with her as much as you can like when baby is napping etc.

I bet she will surprise you with how well she does. My son is almost 5 and his baby sister is 4 months old. He absolutely adores her. He tells us ALL the time, "I love you, mommy, but I love Haddie the most." Lol. I think that since he fully understands what is going on, he was totally awesome about the whole thing.
