Yesterday, July 13th 2013, we were supposed to be in Rapid City SD. To celebrate Jake's 9th birthday with his best friend. He really wanted to see Mount Rushmore. Instead, we spent the day at his graveside. It was a beautiful day out, sunny and warm with a light breeze. Myself, my mother, sister in law, niece, twin nephews, LO, and my cousin were there. DH, dad and brother "had things to do". Although we knew that they just couldn't handle it. We stood there for a while, in silence. My neice hugged his headstone saying happy birthday to her cousin and she missed him and hoping he is having a big party in heaven. When we were ready we walked a few feet into a clearing and let off 9 yellow *his favorite color* balloons. Everyone got into the car, to give me time to sit there for a bit and had a talk with him. Afterwords we went to pizza and decided that it was his birthday, a time to celebrate his life! We shared laughs, some tears, and my cousin went next door to DQ and got a ice cream cake. It was too frozen to cut so we all dug in with forks. LO couldn't wait so he just started shoveling the decorative frosting into his mouth, getting it all over. I put some on my nephews nose and then it kind of started a "frosting war" at the end everyone got at least a little on their face. I could feel Jake's love and happiness around us as we laughed. Yesterday wasn't what I excepted. I expected to be depressed with a extreme heavy heart. Instead it was a peacefully empty, not happy, not sad, just empty.

The first birthday after a loss is the hardest. I still go to my older brothers grave every year on his birthday. <3 happy birthday to him!

Sorry for your loss. It sounds like you had a nice day with your family in the remembrance of your son. I am sure he was happy to look down on you and see you celebrating rather than mourning. <3

A huge hugging squeeze to you. I'm glad that he made the day not so painful. He was there in spirit guiding you.

Happy birthday Jacob!! We always make cupcakes for our daughters birthday. The tradition makes it easier. Maybe eating a DQ cake with forks can be a tradition for you :)

Hey hun, I was just wondering about you the other day <3
I'm glad you guys got through his Birthday ok. That's a lot like how Isaac's birthday went last month. It wasn't nearly as depressing or sad as we thought it was going to be but like you said, empty.
I'm so happy that you were able to be surrounded by family <3

I am so sorry mama. I know this is going to sound very odd but for some reason. The dates are odd. My husband and I started dating on February 26, and our wedding was this past Saturday on July 13. Very odd, but I believe everyone crosses paths for a reason. How are you? How is the pup? Hope you are ok!
