Last September I had a really bad drinking problem. One night while my daughter was asleep I got drunk and cut my arm really bad got about 70 stitches. Anyways cps stepped in and took my daughter .. they gave her to my brother and said that as soon as I found a new place to live I can have her back since I was getting evicted.so I did and they didn't give her back they gave her to her dad . And he served me with custody papers. They said I'd have to finish a step program to get her back. I never finished it since my insurance ended. And I got married and was staying in another state the past five months. But I'm back in California . Getting a divorce and pregnant from a guy I was dating after my husband and I separated. I've been told that cps Will step in again. But i dont drink or do drugs and I Take regular medication for my depression. Does anyone know what I'll have to do I want my baby. And I hope to get my daughter back . I've only been back for 2 weeks. And dint know who I can speak to about all this with.

I'm guessing you need to finish the program they told you to do?

CPS will give you your daughter back when they find you fit, not finishing the program was a huge mistake. Find a way to do that and contact them.

Agreed, if CPS took my kids I'd be finishing that program ASAP wether insurance covered it or not. If you haven't finished it by the time the baby is born they will probably step in

I don't think they will come and take your new child but you should finish that program so your daughter can be back in your life.

Do you still have a drinking problem? If so, you owe it to your daughter to get better. Finish the program, and prove it to everyone how much getting her back means to you.

How did you manage to get married divorced and then pregnant by some other guy in the last year but not manage to figure out how to get your daughter back? If I had lost my child I would not even be able to function until they were back with me.

Talk to a lawyer.

But she knows how to get her back.....she needs to finish her program, find a new place to live and become stable.

OP - how often do you see your daughter? Talk to her on the phone?

Call CPS, don't you have a case worker?

ETA, how are we supposed to know how to get your kid back? It sounds like you are just trying to cover your ass so that your new baby doesn't get taken.

I'm not sure how well the year its taken and moving to another state is going to look, but not finishing your program isnt going to look good in your favor. Finish the program.

I hate seeing stuff like this bc its heart breaking. I'm sure your kicking yourself in the ass for losing her. Finishing the program and getting her back should have been the top priority otherwise it screams "momma didnt do what she needed to and instead left, but now im back and youre important again."

Or the courthouse, since in the OP it sounds like in the custody papers it talks about her finishing the program.

Wait, so it's been a YEAR since she was removed from your custody and you haven't completed a fairly simple 12 step program?

I don't drink and haven't drank for a long time. But I want to get her back.I see her everyday. And since I've stopped drinking she's more attached to me and our relationship is good. Stopping drinking really made everything better but I still have stuff to work on

You need to finish that program even if you are better if you ever want to get her back.
