Not even sure if that is a correct abbreviation but here's what I'm trying to get at...

Doctor Pregnancy Test vs Home Pregnancy Test.

Long story short...don't waste your money!

Most likely, unless you have a history of ectopic, miscarriages, etc, they will order a urine HCG test or a QUALITATIVE blood test. Both of those are Yes/No tests.
Now, it might be different but where I work these are the lowest levels they can pick up on....

Urine HCG: 20 mlU

Serum HCG QL(qualitative): 10 mlU

Serum HCG QN (quanitative): >5 mlU

Also get this.....both of the first two are run on the same kind of testing kit.

Either way if you have to wait more than 3 days for those results, that's messed up because they are all chemistry tests and take less than an hour once they reach the performing lab. So yeah if you go to your small town clinic and they have to send a courier to bring it to the main lab it might take an extra day or two, but otherwise it really does not take long at all.

Just figured I'd put my two cents of personal knowledge here since I always see people saying "Go to the doctor and have a test done." and unless you're getting a QUANTITATIVE level, it would just be cheaper to get a pee stick from the dollar store :)

It would only be cheaper if your insurance doesn't cover it, and you have to get a test done by the doc to confirm your pregnancy anyhow.

She kind of has a point though. Like in my case, I have to make an appointment, which I have a 15 dollar co-pay for. The test is covered but it would really would be cheaper for me to go to the dollar store if all I'm getting is a urine test. Lol.

Completely agree. We have tons of people coming into the er for pregnancy tests. I just look at them like they are nuts. Who would want to take a $1000 pregnancy test. The ones we use look just like the ones in the dollar store and unless there is complications don't do blood tests.
