As i have stated in my past posts I want to have a natural labor and delivery. I was wondering what are some ways I can cope with the pains of labor. I've had 3 other kids, but as soon as I had an contraction I asked for meds. So what can I do to take the edge off the pain? What did you ladies do?

first... think about WHY you want a natural delivery. It doesn't make you any less of a woman or less of a mom to have meds. Pain sucks... and if you want pain meds.. don't let anyone make you feel guilty for either accepting them, or asking for them.

but... if you think it through, and it really IS what you want... educate yourself. Take natural birthing classes. Research alternate ways to manage pain. Find out if the hospital does aromatherapy, look into counter pressure and teach your SO or coach, make sure the hospital has a birthing ball. If everything is going well.. ask if you can take showers during labor before your water breaks. (or dont' let them break your water until you've progressed if you want to spend time in the shower), or bath for that matter (if the hospital has them)

learn to focus, learn how to breathe, and have a support person who you trust who will both encourage you to continue with what you want, but that won't make you feel guilty if you cave and accept pain medication

The best advice I can give you is too believe in yourself and only have people that support your decisions surrounding you. Don't be afraid to kick people out of the room.
