People moving in Ronnie RadKat 4 kids; Arizona 22168 posts

There are people moving in next door and I'm annoyed. I was hoping (probably not very nicely) that that house would sit for a LONG time. Why you ask?

Well... The tenants will be paying $300 more in rent for that house than comparable houses in the area (including a house 2 houses down that is almost double the size and rents for the same amount and the same model next door to them that currently rents for over $300 less). this amount is also double what a mortgage would be ( I followed what it sold for).

I find it extremely annoying that investors snatch up the foreclosures and short sales before someone who intends for the home to be their principal residence can. Then they turn around and rent them for double what a home owner would pay for the mortgage (including taxes and insurance). Then on top of that they rent it for more than than what others in the neighborhood rent for.

So you're asking why I care/ why this is a "bad thing"? This is bad for a couple reasons, two of which are this limits the affordable properties available for people who intend to inhabit them and 2.) it raises rent in the area making renting unaffordable for many. Yes people have a right to make a living but this is GREED and destruction of the American Dream and it pisses me off. The End.

*shrug* I don't see a problem with it. Just the way the world works. No reason to get pissed over it.

:!:
It's not affecting you personally so why let it get to you?

I feel like someone on here has ranted about something like this already.
Was that you ?

But I don't think it matters ? It doesn't effect you any?

I'm tired of the apathy too, the "if it doesn't directly impact you why care" attitude sucks, it affects EVERYONE.

I mean you're right, but there's nothing you CAN do about it. Get over it.

I'd be mad if it was pulling the neighborhood down. But, if they are taking abandoned homes and getting people in their who can afford higher rent, I'd say that was a good thing.
And, I have no problem with people taking financial risks and getting the rewards.

This is a nice neighborhood, there is none of those kinds of thing going on.

I'd get it if there's something you can do. But if not, then just try to let it go.

Knowing me I'll probably try to find something I can do, I'm going to talk to my elected officials. But you're right for this particular house I cannot do anything but if I ever have a conversation with my new neighbors I'll probably casually bring it up that they are paying WAY more than they should be. They have out of state plates, they probably have no idea otherwise why would they rent it for that much?! It's crazy to me.

That's awesome then! More power to you! I hope you can talk to the right people and they can make a change. :)

I'm a landlord. The only way I can improve my properties is if I'm making money. If the landlord cant make money, the place is going to look like crap soon. The landlord will do the bare minimum or not even the bare minimum. You will only harm your neighborhood so think about it before causing a problem. If they truly are overpaying, your rent wont go up as you will be paying the "right" price.
