Yes, there would be no question; I would do it in either situation. I'd also call the police and do it with them on the phone if necessary.

My friend who works for the humane society told us to do this.

Not necessarily, the windows could be cracked.

Cracking a window doesnt allow for much air flow to lower the temp in a car.

My biggest worry, though, is that I wouldn't be able to break it. I have no upper body strength at all.

Hell, my 4 year old probably does. I just hope that if I were ever in that situation, God forbid, DH would be with me or there would be some type of weapon I could use. I guess worst case scenario is I'd run into the nearest store and get a dude willing to break a window.

Yeah, it would be pretty scary actually having to be put in that position :(

I would call the police. I would not just break someones window as I could be arrested. The only circumstances where i'd do it, is if it was very clear that the child/animal was in obvious trauma and needed out of the car asap!

The pet's owner should be charged with animal neglect and abuse. I think the guy did the right thing.

Depending on the situation, I'd rescue a pet, but a kid? Right away, cops or no cops.

I'd do it for a child, and can actually see myself doing it for a dog.

I'd bust a window for a child or an animal(including cats in here too I've seen that as well ...) , immediately and without a second thought for sure if either the child or animal are in obvious distress, pain, or look like they're on death's door step. I'd call police first in any other situation, but for grave looking situations I'd have no second thoughts. I have a thing to break windows in my purse because I've left keys in my car before and had to call the police to have them come help me where now I can do it for myself instead, but also if someone leaves their pet or child in a car on a hot day, I'm not afraid to bust it open.
