Moms who have had Unassisted Births, PLEASE HELP!

I am not pregnant yet. But it is illegal to have a midwife attended homebirth in my state. (And expensive, because its illegal.) Although, we are keeping that option on the table, (I have connections, I just need to reach out again and see what's around.)

What will I need? And how much did it cost?

Please do not criticize my birthing choices! I had an all natural hospital birth with my first at 17! and I will be receiving adequate prenatal care. If everything is looking good at the end, my husband and I are considering unassisted!

cost ... it shouldn't cost anything BUT you will both have to have CPR and basic first aid. There are various herbs that will slow or even stop bleeding should that become an issue (you'll have to research this). I would recommend at least hiring a doppler to keep an eye on birth rate. Are you within a few minutes of an ambulance ride to the hospital?

You need to consider things like that.

I am 15 minutes from my hospital so I am going to labor as much as I can at home because I can not afford the out of pocket cost for a midwife as my insurance does not cover it

Hiring a doppler? You mean buying one? And when I give birth I will be less than ten minutes from FOUR hospitals. Including one with a High level NICU and a children's hospital.

And yes, it will COST us. I need a heart monitor, a tub (I want a water birth), possibly clamps, and scale at the very LEAST.

I have my CPR and basic first AID, I have had it and renew it since I started babysitting at 14.
Also, my husband is in the military and so is trained in CPR, first aid, and a whole list of shit they don't offer civilians.

I was 15 away with my first, but I am not planning on even going to the hospital if everything goes well.

Same. But I desperately do not want another hospital birth. DESPERATELY.

So I am going to contact my midwives, get a price, and prepare for an Unassisted birth.

Just so your aware, in a few states I have practiced in, if you have a child at home with no midwife, registered nurse hell even a cna. You can be excepted to get a DNA test all the way to a pelvic exam to prove you gave birth.

I understand wanting to save yourself the money, the experience etc. many things can go wrong in minutes, what if the baby is breach? What if you need a episiotomy? I wouldnt trust my Husband to do one.

I helped deliver a baby 2 weeks ago, to a Mother of 4. This was her 5th pregnancy, she signed a birth plan stating that she wanted no medical assistance till she required it, or her life was in danger. All I did was check her blood pressure, be a focal point for her and talked with her and her Husband during the entire thing. But when she said she needed to push her blood pressure got low, we hooked her up to a monitor and had to perform a episiotomy, her first ever by the way because we had to get the baby out quickly.

After she delivered she needed surgery due to a retained placenta, which if you go through your local ER or L&D can be a processing of 45 mins after an ambulance ride( which is around 2k for you and the baby ) if that happened to you, you would of had major blood loss or death as a result.

You need to run this idea across your OB, and see if they feel it is a good idea, they know best.

Check out the mothering.com forum for unassisted birth. Google "in his hands" for birth supplies. I thought about a UC and researched it for this pregnancy, but got diagnosed with a heart condition so I am no longer comfortable with that. I would suggest first aid/cpr classes for you and SO. IYou can rent a doppler at various places online.
