What if you believe that by retreating you could be putting your family in danger? In this case, she has admitted to seeing the guy around her neighborhood. So, maybe she assumed he would find her later.

Quoting Cockfetti:" <blockquote><b>Quoting Nicola.:</b>" The woman you mentioned last was sentenced for ... [snip!] ... the house by the 911 operator and a few weeks later she assaulted him. Based on those two facts, I agree with the denial."

Oh I agree. She had no basis for Stand Your Ground. Her story spread on social media like crazy after the Zimmerman verdict. With an article from CNN that didn't tell the facts. People were up in arms about her not being able to use Stand Your Ground. Then the facts came out and everyone shut up about it. lol

I haven't heard about this case.

<blockquote><b>Quoting Cockfetti:</b>" <blockquote><b>Quoting Nicola.:</b>" Stand Your Ground states you do not have to retreat ... [snip!] ... doesn't stop at that, by all means defend yourself. I think this is one of many reasons this law is so controversial."</blockquote>

Even that is open to interpretation, though. At what point should the person retreat? Before it goes from verbal to physical? After the first punch? In most fights, it is possible for someone to walk away at multiple points. But should they have to take the opportunity to retreat if they aren't sure they'll live to tell about it?

I'm the same way. I'm not trying to be the hero. That's why I told my husband I didn't want a gun in my car. I know how to shoot, I have my CHL, but I don't want to have to use one. I don't want to make a life and death decision for someone else if I can avoid it. However, if anyone threatens me when I have my children, I'm turning into MacGyver and figuring out how to kill them with a half-empty red bull can and two bobby pins.

I have two young boys in my house and I don't want them anywhere near a gun until they can take the hunter's safety course and we can afford the best safe known to man. I am Murphy's Law, so I'm extra cautious.
