for the last 2 weeks I have been having contractions that are pretty painful but not consistant. I usually get like 4-5 an hour and they all hurt :( They arent close together but I seem to have them quite often. Should I let my doctor know about this next time i go in and ask him to check me?? I will be 30 weeks when I go in again (august 18th) and I just wanna make sure everything is ok. I will definitely let him know about it but would I sound stupid for asking him to check me? Is it something to worry about?

Yes you should let your dr know. At 30 weeks, you're not suppose to get more than 4 to 6 per hour. if you are getting them, lay down and drink a bunch of water. If that doesn't stop them by the end of the 2nd hour, you need to go in to L&D and get checked to make sure it's not changing your cervix/progressing. They will stop contractions all the way to 35 weeks, but the longer you have contractions like that, the more prepped your body is for labor. That's a bad thing at 30 weeks.

There are a few women who can have that many contractions and have it not do anything, but you don't know which group you're in until you get seen and have a manual exam.

oh ok thats good to know! I have never had this issue with my first two. Although I was dilated to a 3 from about 33 weeks and ended up being induced. so maybe I just wasnt feeling them in my first pregnancies? I have gotten a little worried but laying down and drinking water does slow them down but doesnt completely stop them

Honestly, if they've been going on for several days this way, I would get checked anyway if they don't stop. For me, I have PTL issues right around the start of my 3rd tri with every pregnancy that's made it that far. I'm normally a couple of cm's dilated by 34 weeks, but that's not normal. :) It's only luck and scar tissue keeping them in until 37ish weeks.

Once I get to about 3cm's dilated, my body seems to hit the pause button and I hang out there with pretty much constant contractions until I'm induced. I have to go in all of the time and they have had to stop them on several occasions. I have delivered early in the past though, so it's not something I'd mess around with. Hospital bedrest and all of that stuff sucks. You want to avoid that if you can. NICU isn't much fun either.

I would call, they might have to monitor you for the night to make sure, you and your baby are fine. :)

yea my last son was in the NICU so I hear you there. But I definitely dont wanna be on bedrest. I cant afford it money wise but obviously will make it work for my childs sake. I will be calling tomorrow to see what they want me to do! Thank you

I had my 2nd child at 37 weeks and my 3rd at 34 weeks. With both had issues with contractions and went to l&d to be safe every time they got more than 5-6 an hour. Had bed rest in the hospital for a week with the youngest and still contracted every 8 min even with all the meds. IMO you cant be to cautious.

Wow ok :( I'm getting a little nervous! I really want to make it to 40 weeks with this one. My last was a nicu baby. I was induced because the doc thought he would be too big to deliver if I waited longer. I got induced 13 days before my due date and he was only 6"8 :( so I swore that matter what the doc said this time I won't induce and I don't want him here early especially since he's a boy and they are at higher risk for underdeveloped lungs. So hopefully I haven't dilated any!

Well an update.... I called my doctors office this morning and they arent able to get me in til tuesday morning. They said if i should get any flare ups to where it starts getting really bad to go to L&D, but should be ok until then since I have already gone two weeks and they have stayed the same.
