Are these necessary... 1stTimeBabyMaker 1 child; California 4330 posts

For a newborn? My mom and MIL say I HAVE to have these but some of it seems kind of like a waste of money KWIM?
They say I need a:
- humidifier
- diaper stacker
- changing table
- car seat headrest
- umbrella stroller
- baby powder (if already have desitin)
- diaper pale (would outside trash can work)
- sleep sack (wearable blanket)
- dishwasher caddy
(Hopefully I don't sound like a bad mom for not getting these things)

Also, what are some things that aren't on the baby check lists that made your life easier or you wish you knew about or had?

The only thing on that list we used...and used it a lot was the sleep sack! But, I got them from Ross & TJ Maxx for super cheap. We also used a diaper genie...but, it was more convenience!

I only used baby powder off that list. I have a humidifier for my toddler now but didn't need it when she was a newborn.

Humidifier: Maybe but not a must.
Diaper stacker: Just get a basket or something
Changing table: I had one for DS and NEVER used it. So me personally, I say not necessary
Car Seat Headrest: Had one for my son but he was so long and it just got to be too much of a hassle and he was much happier without it.
Umbrella Stroller: For a newborn? No way. That's something you can get when baby is around a year.
Baby Powder: Why not.
Diaper Pale: Just get a dang trashcan!
Sleep Sack: Seems baby would get too hot.
Dishwasher caddy: Just use the top rack for bottles and the silverware caddy for nipples, etc.

Basically, it all comes down to personal preference and believe me, you will find out quickly what makes your life more easier and best satisfies your baby. I went through the SAME thing with my MIL and I would up with way too much CRAP!

I only got a changing table for my second out of your list. And it was a gift, so no IMO those are not necessary.

- humidifier
These are only good if your baby is already sick, honestly. Most newborns don't get colds and it's to help clear them up without using medicine.
- diaper stacker
You'll go through too many diapers to need to stack them.
- changing table
I promise you'll end up changing your baby wherever it's convenient. We bought just a changing pad and I NEVER used it.
- car seat headrest
NEVER buy anything for a carseat that doesn't come with it and isn't manufacturer approved.
- umbrella stroller
How much time do you spend outside? If it's for out-and-about purposes, I'd highly suggest a baby carrier or a wrap instead. It's better for you and baby.
- baby powder (if already have desitin)
Never put baby powder on a baby. It's dated and actually causes UTI. Only use Desitin when they already have irritation.
- diaper pale (would outside trash can work)
LOL yes you can throw the diapers away outside, you don't need a separate trash area for them.
- sleep sack (wearable blanket)
These are pretty cheap, so really that's up to you. If it's going to be cold when you deliver then go ahead. But they aren't needed, blankets are fine.
- dishwasher caddy
For your bottles? This I'd actually recommend.

You don't need any of that

I never used any of that.

I bought a humidifier when my daughter was two because she keeps getting chronic ear infections.

The only thing I used on that list was sleepsacks. IMO the neccesary things for NB are formula or breastmilk (obviously) , size nb or size 1 diapers, baby carrier, and tons of sleepers and onesies.

I have none of that. And wouldn't even use if I had it over half of that.

I would get the sleep sack. I also have a diaper pale but more often then not I use the garbage. I have a changing table. Only time it got use for a few night time feedings to change a diaper. Otherwise it`s on the second floor and say F-it, I`ll change you on the floor downstairs.

9x out of 10, I changed my DS on the floor or on the bed/couch.
