At what age/weight did you take your child out of a 5 point harness and let them ride in a booster seat with a seatbelt?

My son is 4 and almost 50lbs and I'm considering letting him use a booster seat on the way to and from school (about a two mile drive). I let him out in a line of other parents, but it's difficult because he has a hard time getting the bottom buckle undone on his own.

I would never lessen my child's safety for the convenience of others.

My brother just switched his 4 year old to a booster. I'm not sure how heavy he is but I know he's over 40 lbs. He also is not very knowledgeable about car seat safety. We're keeping our LO harnessed for a long time but not sure when we'll switch. Just when we feel it's right.

If he can pass the booster seat test I guess it's okay.
No slouching
Seat belt is properly positioned
Sits properly when falling asleep (it happens lol)

Dd is 4.5 and 54lbs and still harnessed
