My son is 7 months old. We are EBF (well for the most part... I buy formula and keep a it in the diaper bag for long car rides and for weekends when my husband lets me sleep in for an hour or two) and he gets baby food/cereal once a day. We are just starting to try for another baby, but I don't even know if I'm ovulating yet. I have spotted a few times months ago. Does anyone have any experience getting pregnant while breastfeeding? Any one have spotting like I did and have it turn into a period? I guess I'm just trying to figure out if it is feasible for me to get pregnant at this point. I know everyone returns to their normal cycle at different points PP, I'm just looking for a little hope that I will be able to get pregnant ( or start trying with the possibility or pregnancy) soon!

I didn't breastfeed and got my PP period on the immediate next cycle, so I can't speak from experience BUT I've known of women who got pregnant while breastfeeding without having their initial PP cycle come!

You're welcome! Mostly they assumed that because they didn't get their periods they couldn't get pregnant so a lot of them got oops babies. Haha. You should schedule an appointment to talk to your OB about it.

It might happen soon! Some women have a "warning" period before they return to fertility but others ovulate before their period returns. How often you nurse (especially at night) can play a role in when your period comes back. It may return soon now that you are giving solids. Also, sometimes you return to fertilty after they start sleeping trough the night or after nigg weaning. It really depends.

I EBF for six months (including pumped milk while I was at work), then started solids but still nursed on demand and coslept. DD started typically sleeping through the night at 13ish months and I got my first pp period at 14 months. My cycles ranged from 28-38 days. We successfully used condoms to prevent pregnancy. When DD was 19 months, we started NTNP (wih one month of active TTC). After 5 months of not using protection, I got a BFP (2 years pp). Still BFing. We may have gotten pregnant sooner if we had been actively trying. It is definitely possible but it takes longer for some people. I will cross my fingers for you and send lots of baby dust!

thanks! My son sleeps in his own crib, but he nurses at night when he wakes, usually just long enough to comfort him and allow him to fall back asleep. He nurses a lot during the day. I am a SAHM and he is my only child so he pretty much grazes all day long, lol. I am really hoping to get pregnant within the next year. It took us 7 months to get pregnant last time so we want to make sure to start trying now incase it takes us a while. I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)
