Pretty much. If a woman doesn't have a healthy diet, baby doesn't have healthy milk. Will the government charge women for eating a chocolate bar ? Lol

Seriously... But then again.. Welcome to 'Merica, where we tell women what they should do with their bodies, and we will take your kids away because we want to...

So she's getting all this crap for doing what was best for her baby but you hear about other people putting soda in their baby's bottles with nothing happening to them over it. Wtf.

I say good on her for doing what she thought was best for her child and following through with it. This lady was aware of her child's well being, his growth etc..she was not neglecting him or putting him at risk, when confronted she (by what ever stupid law) did the right thing by following the policy and procedures that were asked of her.
These people should go out and look after the well being of children that need help and are in bad situations not trying to give this lady and her family a hard time!

I feel a little bit like if she wasn't 17 they wouldn't have treated it like they have.

There's more in it than that. Dr sears actually has a recipe on his website.

:!:

How often do you see people giving their 6 month old stuff in a bottle that they shouldn't have. I've seen people on here post that they give their babies tea or coffee in a bottle "because they like it". But she added celery. Shoot her.

So glad I'm not in America. The midwives do a home visit here and only if the baby isn't gaining weight do they step in. And it's not by taking your child away its by offering additional support and information and helping you with a feeding plan.

Not sure if you were being serious in that statement of facetious...but your diet doesn't have a whole lot to do with milk quality. The basics of human milk are super similar regardless of diet - the b**bs just rob mom of essential nutrients, it still adds it to milk. So don't eat enough calcium? Fine, but don't expect mom to maintain bone health.

As far as the mom in question....I think 95% of the issue was likely her age & Dr's being pissy if you don't do exactly what they recommend. At the very least there should be blood work proving that what she was feeding the baby was in fact dietarily insufficient. If that isn't the case, then there isn't a leg to stand on.

As far as previous poster saying it couldn't be enough, it sure as heck can be,.. S he didn't list her recipe & I highly doubt she was feeding goat's milk & celery juice & that is it. Goat's milk is much closer to human milk from a nutritional standpoint & much less taxing on the digestive system. With some tweaking, anyone an make an equivalent formula at home than what you get in stores without any additions of things like MSG (which is in fact in all commercially prepared formulas to varying degrees & serves NO nutritional function).

I think it is crazy for a Dr to interfere unless he can PROVE harm & that should be VERY easy to do with a simple blood workup.
