So you are her mom, which is great. It would be so much worse if she only had her bio-mom to look up to. I hope they take away mandatory visits if her family is as bad as you say.

They are. Her mom used to work through DHS, which is why things are this way. Now her mom got fired because she was "unfit"... but she still has the connections through the courthouse we had to go through. It just sucks. It's a sad, sad situation.

I don't think she was being supervised at all. I guess that's why DD doesn't wear helmets. I'm always behind or beside her. I wouldn't sit my ass down & just let her ride around as she pleased. What if someone snatched her. Fuck that.

See I had this great idea to let Cylus ride his bike 2 blocks down to the gas station with me running behind him. FUCK THAT! never again will I let him ride that far because running to catch up to him when his feet go twice as fast as mine just doesn't work out after a long day of work.

Omg. Were you able to catch up to him? I'm the kind of terrified, over-protective, always thinking the worse will happen kind of mom. If I can't reach out and grab DD while riding the bike, she's going too fast.

My 3.5 just started riding his bike so he doesn't have a helmet yet. Here a helmet is law, but not for bikes with training wheels (according to my husband, I haven't looked it up yet). We haven't gone for any real bike rides because i won't let him until he has a helmet

It's also law here that you can't smoke with the kids in the car. Shocks me that other places don't care about something so horrible.

I'd say there's nothing you can do.

It seems silly that the helmet law wouldn't apply to bikes with training wheels. The fall that got me stitches was on a bike with training wheels. I took a corner too sharply and somehow caught the training wheel at a weird angle. It caused me to fall into some bushes and bust my head. I was learning how to ride my bike at a park with my mom a block away from home.

Quoting Kait.:" Our 5 year old has had supervised visitation with her mother (her grandma is the supervisor) for the ... [snip!] ... smoke in the car around her. She said "well..." and that was it. Ugh. Does your 5 year old wear a helmet while riding a bike? "

My child will wear a helmet at all times at ANY age, otherwise her ass will be grounded for a seriously long time if I catch her without a helmet.
