Is it possible to restart breastfeeding? ~*Melissa Caruso*~ 3 kids; North Little Rock, Arkansas 43 posts

I went on vacation when my baby was about 7 weeks old. she is now going on 7 months and haven't breastfed since vacation. We have tried multiple kinds of formula but every time I pick her up she pukes on me. I am wondering if it's the formula and wanted to try breast milk again. I can still get a little clear stuff out of one side so I remain hopeful. Is it doable? What do I need to do to start it? I have 3 kids in total so time is NOT my friend these days. Thanks everyone!

Yes its called relactation. It will take a lot of time and dedication though. Start nursing the baby whenever she will latch. Pump every 2-3 hours for 15-20 minutes. You can take fenugreek, mothers milk tea, steel cut oats, to help encourage supply. Stay hydrated and eat healthy. You can also get a SNS so baby is always at the breast.

My supply was always low. She ate every 2-3 hours. I pumped every 3 hours on the nose and only got just enough to feed her. I did not drink a lot of water and my sister said that was possibly my issue. I took Fenugreek, 7 a day. I noticed no changes. She was never good at latching on so the pump was needed. I would like to know more about this SNS though : )

I found mothers milk tea at the grocery store. Although im an avid online shopper so you can order from amazon. Whole foods or something similar might have both. You can also order the SNS from amazon. You put the formula in a container then there is a tube that goes to breast. When they suck they get formula but in a much slower flow than a bottle and they stimulate your breast to produce at the same time. Here is a link with some great info as well http://kellymom.com/category/ages/adopt-relactate/
If you have a LC I would meet with them as well.

I am doing this is well, there is a lactic an aide I use that is like a straw on your nipple to put your expressed milk or formula into to trick baby into thinking food is coming from your boob. It is SO hard and frustrating, and it has been 2 weeks for me and I am almost at wits end. I breast fed until 4.5 months but my son stopped latching and I just kind of stopped w/ the notion he chose to wean himself BUT I am still making milk and feel like my body is telling me to continue. So I am. Best of luck momma.

They are all SNS. A lactation aid is anything that aids in lactation so a SNS even a pump could be lactation aid. Fenugreek, mothers milk tea, all aid in lactation.
