You can get it from pets

Scabies (from Latin: scabere, "to scratch"),[1] also called Norwegian scabies or colloquially the seven-year itch,[2] is a contagious skin infectioncaused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. The mite is a tiny and usually not directly visible parasite which burrows under the host's skin, causing intense allergic itching. The infection in animals other than humans is caused by a different but related mite species, and is called sarcoptic mange.
Scabies is classified by the World Health Organization as a water-related disease.[3] The disease may be transmitted from objects, but is most often transmitted by direct skin-to-skin contact, with a higher risk with prolonged contact. Initial infections require four to six weeks to become symptomatic. Reinfection, however, may manifest symptoms within as few as 24 hours. Because the symptoms are allergic, their delay in onset is often mirrored by a significant delay in relief after the parasites have been eradicated. Crusted scabies, formerly known as Norwegian scabies, is a more severe form of the infection often associated with immunosuppression.

Well when i worked in the emergency dept at a hospital people would come in with Scabies and have to be totally seperated because of how contagious they were. I remember the doctors saying you could actually see them jumping off... so i guess it doesn't always have to be close contact??? Yikes and hope you skip it and lO clears up no problem!!!

Lol no you can't even says it there the human scabies and animal scabies are 2 different species of mites. Humans can't contract the animal one.

Anyway OP they could have touch something infected or someone.

It says they are different but related. You can get scabies from dogs but it's not the exact same mite

Washing everything won't be enough if your son already has it. You need to treat everyone in the house with permetherin(sp?) Trust me I've been there it sucks. Good luck.

Here I found this. It gives good things to do to get rid of them

Scabies is a contagious (catching) disorder of the skin caused by very small, wingless insects or mites called the Human Itch mite or Scabies itch mite Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis (Hering). The female insect burrows into the skin where she lays 1 - 3 eggs daily. A very small, hard to see, zigzag blister usually marks the trail of the insect as she lays her eggs. Other more obvious symptoms are an intense itching (especially at night) and a red rash that can occur at the area that has been scratched. The most common locations for scabies are on the sides of fingers, between the fingers, on the backs of the hands, on the wrists, heels, elbows, armpits, inner thighs and around the waist (belt line). If untreated, the female will continue to lay eggs for about five weeks. The eggs hatch and the new mites begin the cycle all over again. The mites themselves are too small to be seen without magnification. One of the great problems with scabies always has been misdiagnosis. Scabies is spread by personal contact, e.g., by shaking hands or sleeping together or by close contact with infected articles such as clothing, bedding or towels. It is usually found where people are crowded together or have frequent contact, and is most common among school children, families, roommates, and sexual partners. Scabies can be spread by the insect itself or by the egg. Prompt action is required to rid a person of the insects and eggs. Sulfur has been used (6 - 10% in lotion or cream) since Roman times as a scabicide, but you might be allergic.

If you think your child or someone else in the family has scabies - Try a sauna and/or try bathing, washing or soaking in diluted Lice R Gone

A friend's step son got it from being around his biological mother. The dr said it was because his biological mom must not have been bathing him properly and after cps went in and looked at their house condition, it became more obvious why he would contract scabies. I would say you could probably get it from the dog. I felt so sorry for the little boy and his dad and step mom though bc they ALL contracted it after he came home and I remember my friend telling me how awful the itching was and made her feel gross. That is one thing I really hope my kids and I never contract. Lol. I am a compulsive itcher....I'm even beginning to itch now just thinking about it.
