Pain meds in labor? MunchkinWrangler 4 kids; Rīga, Latvia 46773 posts

So im in labor. Weighing my options. Didn't really enjoy my epidural last time, but I don't want to be miserable in labor.

They've offered stadol (sp?), which I have never tried in labor. Anyone have reviews on this for me? Id like to be able to be up and mobile.... Be able to be in the shower and using the restroom as I wish, so im thinking this may be a good option?

stadol doesn't really help with pain... just the perception of pain.

in other words. it makes you loopy as hell. You'll pretty much tell everyone it still hurts like hell...but you don't care anymore.

and.. it only lasts about half hour to 45 minutes if you're lucky.

Stadol makes me feel dizzy and completely out of it.

if your water isn't broken yet... ask about a hot shower.. counter pressure, aromatherapy, getting on your hands and knees <<---- likely most helpful if you want to avoid epidural.

I still felt all the pain. was just very tired and felt horribly drugged up.

They gave me stadol whit my first baby and I hated it. It makes you sleep like passed out. I don't remember 1/2 of what happened and as soon as I had her I was so tired I went right back to sleep while they were finishing up with me. I missed the first 4 hrs of her life. Someone else feed her and all. I will never use it again.

My water broke.
Right now im tolerating pain well but I am just wondering for down the road. Id never tried it so I didn't know if it would be worth it to give a try??

Ill definitely be in the shower enjoying the heat. Just waiting for them to place my IV first.

I won't take it again. I slept for 12 hours after I had her. I didn't even get to hold her out anything before I passed out.

I had stadol with my first and I just rambled and rambled about unicorns and rainbows and shit like that. The contractions still hurt, I just didn't care.

I had a complete freak out because I was afraid the newborn outfit I bought would be too small.

 I cried and asked M to go to WalMart and get the next size up.
