Mastitis? Onalee's Mummy Due August 26 (boy); 1 child; Newcastle, Australia 5355 posts

Hi ladies

I'm not breastfeeding, but I'm 38 weeks pregnant and my left side feels very very similar to when I had mastitis when I use to breastfeed. The only differene is the pain is very much in my nipple and I can not see a red line from my nipple down my breast, I don't have a temperature either. It is etting increasingly painful.

What is this? Can you even get mastitis when you aren't breastfeeding ?

If it helps I've been leaking since about 14 weeks and increasingly so the last week.

TIA

It's possible to get mastitis while pregnant, although unusual. If the pain's in your nipple and not your breast, with no temp or redness, it doesn't sound like mastitis though. Thrush, maybe? Idk. Guess you'll have to ask your doctor.

I have the redness and temperature now :/

I've just been using cold packs to reduce the swelling and just hand expressing with warm water when I have a shower
